What Constitutes Hazing?

According to New York Penal Law §120.16, hazing occurs any time the initiation into an association or organization depends on the individual intentionally or recklessly engaging in activates which carry the risk of substantial physical injury to himself or others. Hazing in the first degree is a Class A misdemeanor.

Though hazing is classified as a misdemeanor under the law, make no mistake, a hazing conviction can have long-lasting consequences for any student or person. A conviction would go onto your public criminal record, and could affect long-term employment prospects and other financial opportunities.
